Up In The Air Rally this weekend!
AMARILLO, TEXAS KVII: -- You can achieve your dreams and overcome adversity, that's the message Michael Glen brings to kids from elementary age all the way to college.
Glen is the world's first paraplegic hot air balloon pilot. Monday he was at Amarillo College, delivering his message of reaching goals.
Glen said he hopes his story can encourage and inspire others to reach for the skies, because he knows how hard life can be.
"It took about 10 years time I applied for my license the first year after my accident. I was actually denied by the FAA and 9 years later after that was when I actually got my license and made me the first and only paraplegic in the world to fly a balloon."
Glen is in town for the "Up in the Air for Family Care" a hot air balloon festival, and he will be speaking at area schools throughout the week. Hot air balloons will fill the skies in Amarillo and Canyon on Friday on through Sunday, for the balloon rally.
The rally will feature all sorts of shaped balloons and a handful of regular shapes from across the country. The world famous Lady Bug, Clown N Around, and Cheshire the Cat, will all be appearing at this weekend's event.
The balloon rally will help The Family Care Foundation. The foundation, is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting Panhandle families with qualifying medical expenses.
